WREN’s Restaurant Update – Fall 2018
It’s that time of the year again. The days are shorter, the leaves are changing, and the WREN foodies have an update on the best DTLA restaurants that’ll fill your belly all fall long. As per usual, WREN benefits from an awesome South Park location that’s in the heart of the most vibrant and burgeoning area in all of Los Angeles. We get to try out some outstanding cuisine. Since it’s been a while since we last talked about what’s happening on the DTLA restaurant scene, there’s a whole slew of new spots to discover. We’ve put together a list of the current faves!
1. Lala’s Argentine Grill
From Lala’s Facebook
We’re thrilled that one of the newest restaurants in South Park, LA is Lala’s Argentine Grill. Lala’s has been wowing Angelenos in Studio City and West Hollywood for years. The empanadas are to die for, the steaks are juicy and perfectly cooked, and the service is impeccable. What more can we say?
2. Tipsy Grill
From Tipsy’s Yelp Page
Many DTLA restaurants are known for putting their own spin on traditional foods and Tipsy Grill is no exception. Here, you’re tantalized with a scrumptious mix of Mediterranean and American. As for must-try dishes, we’d say go for the Lamb Pizza, the Tipsy Classic Burger, and the grilled romaine hearts.
3. Superfine Pizza
From Superfine’s Facebook
If you’ve talked to anyone about Superfine Pizza, they’ve probably mentioned the Salami Honey pie; it’s the perfect blend of spicy (salami) and sweet (buckwheat honey). But, if this isn’t up your alley, don’t worry — there are plenty of other options or you can build your own pizza.
4. Wangs Tavern
from Big Wangs Facebook
Located about a half mile from our DTLA apartments is a great sports bar named Wangs Tavern. Out of all the DTLA restaurants on our list, Wangs is the ideal spot to catch a game, enjoy a cold beer, and eat some killer wings (if that’s what you’re into). You’re guaranteed to feel comfortable and welcome here.
Of course, not all South Park, LA restaurants are about the carnivores. The vegetarians get a shout-out as well. The folks at sweetgreen put together extremely fresh and tasty salads and bowls. You have your pick of pre-made meals, or you can make your own. What’s more, the menus are seasonal so there are often new dishes to discover.
From Rice Box’s website
RiceBox is traditional Cantonese barbecue at its best! The menu is short, sweet, easy, and features rice box (rice topped with meats, veggies, and other ingredients) and bao (steamed bun) options. We suggest you remember two words for your trip to RiceBox — Porchetta Crackling.
7. The Wolves
From the Wolves’ yelp page
If we were giving out awards to DTLA restaurants, The Wolves would win best ambiance. Beautifully decorated like a 1920s train station, it’s truly stunning. And, let’s not forget that the cocktails and food are nothing to balk at. The beef brisket grilled cheese tends to haunt our dreams (in a good way).
8. Lucky Bird
Homemade hot sauce and juicy fried chicken? Yes, please! Lucky Bird is quickly making a name for itself as the place to go for chicken. Everything is awesome here but what really steals the show — the fried chicken sandwich (cue the stomach grumble)!
9. Eve American Bistro
image from Eve’s website
Eve American Bistro is aptly described as where “modern American meets traditional European”. The fresh seafood, pasta, and meats are utterly delightful, and they offer something none of the other DTLA restaurants do — bottomless wine pours. While we definitely wouldn’t recommend overdoing it, we do think it’s a pretty neat menu item.
10. Le Macaron Los Angeles
It seems only appropriate to end with a dessert spot. The specialty at Le Macaron is — you guessed it — macarons. But, that’s not all they do. You can also treat yourself to gorgeous gourmet chocolates as well as tarts, croissants, eclairs, and tiramisu. Your sweet tooth will thank you.
There are tons of remarkable restaurants near South Park, LA! We do our best to get to know all of them so you know where to go for an incredible downtown experience.
