WREN’s Nightlife Highlights For 2019
It’s no secret that DTLA is a hotbed for nightlife. In fact, we’ve blogged about it before. But, as it goes with most things in LA – since everything is on the constant move towards the fresh and new – some topics bear repeating. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of our favorite new bars and nightlife establishments near and around WREN apartments in DTLA.

Songbird cafe is a speakeasy at the back of Blossom Plaza in Chinatown. You’ve got to keep your eyes peeled for the bird drawings on the glass windows and you enter through a large industrial door to the left. Songbird works with Tradecraft Outfitters to source specialty coffee and tea options, and the cocktails are equally ambitious. While other craft cocktail spots might focus on more popular spirits, Songbird has a special selection that focuses on bitters and amari.
Highlight – check out the ‘It’s Not me, It’s You’ and ‘The Insta-Stalker’ cocktails.
Here and Now

Another awesome craft cocktail Here and Now is mostly known for there incredible Christmas themed pop-up bar that ran this last month. Now, they’re back to their regularly scheduled programming, which features some ostentatious adult beverages and some seriously scrumptious eats.
Highlight – The Apaculo Bleu is a must! (seen above)
*image from Golden State’s website
Golden State is a well known Burger & Bear spot in Fairfax, and they recently opened a new DTLA location with an extra special feature – an expanded bar area. A sold no-frills burger spot, that was once featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners Drive-ins and Dives, Golden State is a great spot to grab a nice beer or a glass of wine, and just chill. It might not be the most uproarious nightlife venue on the list, but for a chill night with friends and family, it’ll definitely deliver.
Highlight – The Lamb Burger, listed above.
*From LA Neant’s website
Moving from the most casual on our list to the most upscale, LA Neant is a cocktail experience unlike any other. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Omakase, La Neant’s offerings are in constant flux. There is no menu, only a list of curated ingredients from a local farmer’s market. They use those ingredients to design cocktails of unprecedented stature and composition. The bartender will make drinks based on your preference, or you can have them decide for you. Booked by reservation only, La Neant provides a one-of-a-kind cocktail experience that’s sure to delight.
Highlight – everything!
Bang Bang Room
A queer and completely inclusive, two-story circus-themed bar in DTLA…sooo meet ya there? Bang Brang Room is a brand new spot in DTLA that’s currently making waves thanks to its awesome staff and super fun vibe. If you’re looking for a total blast, dance your butt off, kind of night, Bang Bang Room will not disappoint.
Highlights – the shows, the atmosphere, and the fun!
First Draft Taproom
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention our neighbor and all around favorite beer spot in DTLA, First Draft Taproom. Of course, First Draft DTLA is attached to WREN, which not only makes it convenient getting to and from, it also means we’re the first ones to try the tasty new beers that get rotated in and out of their self-serve taps. If you’re looking for a good hang at a spot where beer reigns supreme, First Draft DTLA is it.
