Do you like shaking in your boots (or heels or sneakers or flip-flops)? Do you love hanging out in the dark with ghouls and goblins? You’ve come to the right place! We at WREN have the inside scoop on some of the best places for a good fright this halloween. Luckily, for thrill seekers, Halloween in DTLA is just around the corner. And, because LA is a truly epic city, there are some killer haunted spots for celebrating the scary in the best ways possible!

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride ($30 – $50)

For some, “hayride” might evoke images of smiling faces on a harmless, hay-filled wagon. Not at Griffith Park’s Old (haunted) Zoo! You may feel relatively safe as you’re pulled by tractor through the haunted woods. But, don’t get comfortable, because you’ll be on foot when you snake through a terrifying corn maze filled with demons, maniacs, and clowns. That’s right…you’ll be spending Halloween in DTLA with CLOWNS!  Enough said.

Halloween Horror Nights ($65 – $95)

You’ll get bang for your buck when you hit up Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights. Universal incorporates movie magic into the petrifying festivities that include monster-ridden scare zones, eight mazes, and a “Terror Tram”. You might even come across some characters and scenes from your favorite flicks and shows including The Walking Dead, The Shining, and American Horror Story.

Knott’s Halloween Haunt ($40 – $140.99)

Knott’s Halloween Haunt is one of the premier Halloween Events in all of Southern California. Darkness transforms the family-friendly Knott’s Berry Farm into a not-so-family-friendly horror fest. Over 1,000 monsters wander Knott’s Scary Farm, all hoping to give you the ultimate scare. What better way to enjoy Halloween in So Cal than with 4 scare zones, 10 mazes, live shows, and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark?

Dark Harbor ($20 – $39)

Dark Harbor allows you climb aboard the legendary Queen Mary. But, be forewarned – once you do, there’s nowhere to run. This haunted experience includes seven mazes crawling with more than 200 evil zombies and ghosts. Even without the monsters, the 1920s cruise ship is pretty dang creepy!

Creep LA ($65 – $70)

Based on the Amazon Prime podcast and show Lore, Creep LA turns Magic Box LA into a world of nightmares based on actual people and events. Halloween in DTLA has never been more disturbing! The most frightening tales are brought to life in this one-hour immersive experience that aptly comes with the warning that “the scariest stories are true”.

ALONE: An Existential Haunting ($50 – $75)

Sometimes, being alone with your thoughts can drive you mad…that’s just what the creators of ALONE want. What makes this experience unique: (a) you don’t really know much about the event until it happens, (b) for 45 minutes, it’s just you in the dark with an array of eerie characters, and (c) the “monsters” can and will touch you.  

The Haunted Shack (FREE)

For a good ol’ fashioned way to celebrate Halloween in DTLA, make your way to Torrance, CA. The Haunted Shack is quite literally some guy’s house that’s been transformed into a 10-minute, fright-filled maze. He’s had this thing going for over two decades, so you know he’s doing something right!
