Things to Do in DTLA for the Month of August

Can you believe it’s already August?! If your year has been anything like WRENs, you’ve been busy enjoying an LA lifestyle, which can definitely make the time fly by. Well, don’t expect life to slow down any this month. From movies and music to food and wine, the month of August is bringing a ton of things to do in DTLA, and the movers and shakers at WREN Apartments are thrilled to be able to share the top events that you should check out!

Free Concerts in DTLA

Everybody loves to hear “free”, especially when it’s applied to great music! There are three – that’s right, three – different concert series in and around the downtown area.

Downtown Stage Saturdays at Pershing Square (8 p.m.)

This series includes some of the most iconic bands in music. Aug. 12 brings the famous B-52s while Aug. 19 will rock some ears with punk legends X and grunge greats the Meat Puppets, just to name a few.

Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concerts (7 p.m.)

This might be one of the coolest things to do in DTLA. You can shop, dine, and ride a Ferris wheel while listening to some amazing music. Upcoming acts include Chilean rock/blues/pop singer Mon Laferte on Aug. 10 and Indie Rock band Warpaint on Aug. 17.

Sunset Concerts at the Skirball (8 p.m.)

Sunset Concerts showcases a diverse and talented lineup of artists. From Aug. 10 to Aug. 31, you can experience the Caribbean Blues of Delgres, Daymé Arocena’s Cuban Soul, the Jewish/Cuban World Jazz of David Buchbinder’s Odessa/Havana, and Afro-Venezuelan Soul from Betsayda Machado y La Parranda El Clavo.

Taste of Ecuador

It’s not often that you find things to do in DTLA that showcase Ecuadorian folklore, foods, crafts, and music. On Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., thousands of hungry DTLA-ers will be filling Placita Olvera. There’s even going to be a parade! This is a can’t-miss event.

Festival of Chariots

The diverse culture of LA never ceases to impress! The Festival of Chariots originated in India some 5,000 years ago. On Aug. 6 at 10 a.m., the tradition continues in Santa Monica. It begins with a parade of three stunning chariots representing well-known Indian deities. After that, Venice beach becomes a site of impressive music, dance, and Hare Krishna chanting.

626 Night Market

626 Night Market

We know – it’s hard to believe there are still more things to do near DTLA this month, but it’s true. From Aug. 25 to 27, Santa Anita Park is home to a massive food festival and market. Market-goers will be treated to live entertainment as well as hundreds of vendors serving up bites, crafts, art, and other products.

LA Food and Wine Festival

This event is no joke! It’s put on by FOOD & WINE and Lexus, so you know it’s going to be good. Mark your calendar for Aug. 24 to 27, because there will be locations all over the City packed with celebrity chefs and lavish food and drink. We at WREN Apartments believe that you should find things to do in DTLA that’ll allow you to completely indulge yourself every now and then!

GoTopless

Go Topless Day

We know what you’re thinking, and you’re right! This is a topless event! But, don’t get too embarrassed – it’s tasteful and for a good cause that supports gender equality. So, on Aug. 26, ditch the shirt and head to the Venice Beach Boardwalk at 2 p.m.

Cinecon Classic Film Festival

We can’t talk about August in the entertainment capital of the world without including a cinematic event! From Aug. 21 to Sept. 4, Cinecon celebrates classic film with a plethora of screenings, performances, interviews, and exhibits taking place at the Egyptian Theater and Loews Hollywood Hotel. It’s been a favorite of film buffs and collectors for over 50 years!

You might be wondering how we’re able to keep track of so many things to do in DTLA. It just so happens that WREN’s apartment community is in the heart of downtown. And, not to toot our own horn, but we ensure that our residents enjoy an extraordinary living experience. On top of being in an amazing neighborhood like South Park, tenants have access to incredible apartment homes and state-of-the-art amenities.

Can you imagine having a fully appointed lounge with kitchen, two rooftop decks, a private fitness center, private park, and an onsite restaurant and brewery? Well, stop! You shouldn’t be imagining it. You should be living it.
